Here’s a tb adapter that adds a USB 3 port If you did have TB3 and wanted to connect a thunderbolt 2 or 1 device, Apple would sell you a TB3>Tb1 adapter. as you have found out thunderbolt 3 is the thing now.it is compatible with USB.
